  • We encourage all graduates to take the PMA/NCPT test, which is now known as the NPCP. (Pilates Method Alliance & National Pilates Certification Program)

Do your homework. Research all training programs available.

I tell all students considering a Pilates school that there is no regulation in this industry, so be wary of training that claims to be “accredited.” We encourage all students to look at the materials and curriculum a teacher training establishment provides. We also encourage all students to research and be a “client” at the studio before committing. A lot can be said about how a studio is run and the customer service provided.

  • In Balance Pilates, a locally owned and woman-owned company, has been serving the Tucson community since 2013.

Our teacher trainer, Shawna, holds her Notational Certification and completed her Pilates training in 2015.

IBP is a fast-growing company with numerous opportunities for advancement.

The Pilates industry is intriguing, and many practices are rooted in fear. At In Balance Pilates, we teach the latest best practices with a science-based approach. Our mission is to create an environment of fearless movement and empower new teachers to teach fearlessly!

  • "The environment all of us created during our lecture days is something I will always feel grateful for. There was no judgment, just support and curiosity for learning. While they were long days, we got through them together. The most beneficial aspects for me were when we actually were moving."

  • "A 10/10. I had no idea what to expect going into the training program but I was blown away. I loved learning more about the Pilates industry and really diving into Pilates! It’s been so much fun! I’m extremely happy that I made the decisions to join the TT program it’s changed my life."

  • "I truly appreciate the immense effort Shawna put into creating the training manuals and how dedicated she was to our success. The materials were thoughtfully crafted, and her enthusiasm for teaching really shone through. Shawna was always incredibly supportive and consistently made sure we felt empowered and confident in our learning. I can tell she genuinely wants us to succeed, and I’m grateful for all the guidance she provided!"

  • "The instructor is extremely knowledgeable in all things Pilates and was always available to further understanding. I really appreciate her ability to encourage students to think critically about the Pilates industry, providing multiple viewpoints which allowed me to determine what resonates with me. Additionally, I appreciated the push to further my own understanding by practicing or researching on my own."

  • "I did appreciate how we started with the foundations of Pilates and Caged Lion before getting into the different apparatuses! I also appreciated how we spent a weekend focused on one piece of equipment at a time - that way it felt more manageable to remember and I was able to focus on each piece of equipment by themselves."

  • "There were more than enough opportunities to practice as well as apply the skills learned in the training. By being able to teach and also do the program simultaneously, I was able to apply the skills from the previous weekend to my classes the following week. I feel more than prepared to teach after this program."

  • "The training has had such a positive impact on my confidence and skills as a teacher—I feel truly empowered to teach fearlessly, and that is something I am incredibly grateful for! I can’t imagine how difficult it would have been to un-learn things later on in my career, so I’m thankful I was able to take a deep dive into the material so early on and build a solid foundation. The fact that I now have an evidence-based approach, rather than just following the status quo, is invaluable. The most valuable takeaway for me has been the sense of empowerment to teach with confidence and integrity."

  • "Training has significantly improved my teaching skills. It was really fun to begin to start applying new information and I like that that process occurred over time, it had a layering effect. Training has improved my understanding of the biomechanics of Pilates, the biopsychosocial factors of exercise and injuring, my cueing technique as well as my class planning. My biggest take away from this training was to get people moving (safely, but avoid nocebos), motor learning is pretty automatic, building a therapeutic alliance with clients will further their understanding, their practice and their well-being. Finally, the Pilates industry is unregulated and should be looked at with a critical eye and updated based on current evidence-based research."

  • "I am 100% a different instructor then when we started. There were pieces each week that I have used to improve. It was helpful I started teaching before the classroom sessions began because there were a lot of moments that clicked and I could easily see the improvement from week to week."
